Russia will train 10,000 geneticists and breeders by 2030

This will make it possible to bring Russian agricultural science and the training of highly qualified specialists to a fundamentally new level, reports the company Innopraktika.

At present, the shortage of qualified personnel is increasing, caused by the lack of a modern training system in Russia. The number of trained specialists in this field is only about 350 people, while the current need is 10–12 thousand. The creation of an advanced engineering school specializing in genetics and breeding, based at Voronezh State Agrarian University named after Emperor Peter I, will help solve this task.

"This is the only agricultural university that has become a participant in the project, along with the best classical universities in the country."

— commented Vladimir Avdeenko, Director of the Agro- and Biotechnology Development Directorate at Innopraktika, a member of the Council for Grants for the Provision of State Support for the Creation and Development of Advanced Engineering Schools.

According to Avdeenko, the areas within the Advanced Engineering Schools project have become visionary for the entire agricultural sector, as the Russian economy's dependence on foreign planting and genetic material currently exceeds 70% in crop production and 80% in livestock production.

Furthermore, genetic material created in foreign centers is not initially designed for Russia’s agroclimatic and economic conditions, and its potential cannot always be fully realized. Therefore, Russian agriculture requires domestic professionals at various levels capable of conducting scientific research and implementing it in practice, as well as a large corps of field specialists.

One of the tools for attracting children to the industry will also be the First All-Russian Agrogenetics Competition for High School Students, “Innagrika,” which will be held for the first time this year with the support of Innopraktika.
